Vision Statement:
The school counseling program will promote the all around well being of the students at Swans Creek Elementary.
Mission Statement:
Through a comprehensive and developmental approach school counselors work with students to develop educational, career, and personal/social skills that help each child to be a quality student. The school counseling program is proactive and preventative in nature. Through collaborating with teachers and consulting with other staff members, counselors work to eliminate the barriers that keep children from reaching their full potential.
What do school counselors do?
School counselors help students to reach their maximum potential. We teach lessons and work with children in the areas of academic, career, and social development. School counselors meet with children in the following ways.
Classroom Guidance: School counselors meet with each class multiple times throughout the school year. Lessons are taught following the Prince William County Schools School Counseling Curriculum.
Counseling Groups: Students are able to participate in counseling groups with the school counselor. Groups that are run on a regular basis help students with self-esteem, social skills, organizational skills, anger management, and friendship. Counseling groups are available to all students and may be requested by the student, parent, or teacher. Parental permission is required to participate.
Individual Counseling: Students can meet with counselors on an individual basis when needed. This can be requested by students, teachers, or parents.
